Key skills:

  • skilled in conveyor belt splicing including steel cord belts, hot and cold splice belts and ply fabric belts
  • refurbishment skills
  • basic rigging, lifting and slinging
  • pulley lagging including ceramic, poly and rubber lagging
  • rubber lining
  • overhead crane operation
  • communication skills - able to build strong relationships internally and externally
  • understanding and commitment to workplace health and safety issues

Key experience:

  • must have experience in a physical role in an outdoor heavy industry or mining environment
  • experienced in general conveyor drive maintenance and belt splicing, rubber lining and lagging
  • must have on-site experience in a conveyor crew at a mine or similar
  • proven track record in effectively working as a member of a crew of workers and achieving the required results
  • possess a strong, proven track record of achieving objectives, related to the position

Key accountabilities:

  • OHS - maintain a hazard free workplace in accordance with Safe Work Procedures:
  • comply with all operating procedures and Company Safety Policy
  • perform risk assessments and complete safety observation sheets as necessary
  • ensure use of correct manual handling techniques
  • effective use and storage of dangerous goods
  • complete mine site inductions as required
  • ensure conveyor belts or systems working effectively


  • perform splicing and repairs on all types of conveyor belts including steel cord belts, hot and cold splice belts, and ply fabric belts
  • installing conveyor belts using rigging gear, winches or cranes as required to fit and assemble system components
  • use overhead crane to move belt into position to perform mapping inspection and repairs
  • disassemble conveyor system by removing components of system (guards, scrapers, rollers, stringers and frames) to gain access to belt to perform splice. May involve locking of counter weights (hydraulics)
  • perform conveyor belt mapping on pulleys, rollers or belts and report on belt condition. Use instruments eg durometer to report on belt specifications: density and / or thickness. Use mapping report to recommend type and extent of splice required
  • lag and repair conveyor pulleys involving stripping and painting pulleys, applying appropriatelagging using adhesive and solvents
  • conduct refurbishment / maintenance of conveyor belts as instructed
  • reassembling system once repairs complete, including fitting, cleaning and lubrication of pulleys and system parts
  • erecting rigging to lift rolls of belt into position and load / unload onto trucks

  • work effectively as part of crew in workshop and on customer sites
  • comply with Code of Conduct and perform work in line with the spirit of employer

Equipment - maintained to optimum standard:

  • report any unsafe or unsatisfactory equipment
  • follow procedure to ensure equipment and vehicles maintained to correct standard

Accurate inventory management:

  • assist and perform accurate stock-takes at Branch as required

Continuous improvements (CI):

  • recommend improvements in working methods

Administration procedures:

  • ensure timely, accurate completion of paperwork

Training and development:

  • complete activities as directed by supervisor
